Senior News: Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Article by Sue Corbet
Did you know that this is affecting over 4,000 families in Adams County? The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm. The adult group offers discussions and guest speakers that focus on issues affecting those who are raising children under the age of 18.
Childcare has always been provided but we’ve added something new. We’ve started a group that is specifically for older children and younger teens. Some of their discussions include coping with feelings of stress, anger, depression, personalities, individualism, and self-esteem. We would love to have your child as an addition to our group.
As always we have crafts and games for those ages 4 and up. This group is led by Allison Tabor. Allison is a senior in high school and has volunteered her time with the kids for the last four years.
Dinner is provided by the Brighton Senior Center volunteers and staff. Dinner begins at 6 pm, followed by the various group gatherings. The Brighton Senior Center is located at 575 Bush. Call 303-655-2075 for more information. The program is co-sponsored by the Brighton Senior Center, CSU Cooperative Extension and Catholic Charities.
