Senior News: New Senior & Adult Recreation Center
Article by Sue Corbet

Everyday we get questions about the new adult recreation center. We are working on it and it will be a facility that all seniors will be proud to call their “home-away-from-home.” The City Council appointed a Task Force to work on the design of Phase One. Here’s what we know so far…

• The location will be on just south of Bromley Lane on Prairie Center Parkway just north of the new Platte Valley Medical Center. It is just 3 miles from here.
• It will be for adults - focused on senior programs during the day and older adults in the evenings.
• Our dream facility would cost about $15 million so we have to look at building the facility in phases. The developers of Prairie Center have pledged $7.5 million towards the design and construction of the facility when there is 1 million square feet of retail space open for business in the area. We have also received about $440,000 in memorials dedicated to the new facility.
• Phase One will include meeting rooms, class rooms and fitness areas. We are diligently working on what to include for the amount of money we have to spend. We are at least $1 million short for Phase One. We have some fundraising to do!
• We anticipate offering the same programs we have here currently and a whole host of others given the expanded space and meeting rooms.
• Transportation to the new center will remain the same. The majority of patrons using our Center either drives or rides Special Transit. The new center is also on a RTD route! So we don’t see any problems getting there.

Community Meetings:
Wednesday, January 23 at
1 pm and 6 pm

Come and see first hand what the committee has been working on for the last six months. We need your support and input on the new center. Plan on attending one of the meetings at the Senior Center, 575 Bush. All adults in the community are invited to come and give us feedback!
