Continued...Health News: Are you Suffering Hand or Wrist Pain?

steroids and waiting to have the carpal tunnel “release” surgery done at the hospital when she fell on the ice next to her car and a friend of hers sent her to me to help her with her back pain. To make a long story short, after treatments, her back got better and so did her wrists ...and her surgeon was mad when she told him she didn’t need the surgery because her “hereditary” (as he termed it) carpal tunnel pain was gone! She has never needed the splints or pain relievers for her wrists to this day.

You may be suffering from pain right now in your wrist and not even have carpal tunnel syndrome! Some other causes for your pain include neck and or shoulder or elbow problems. The nerves in the hand come out of the neck, cross the shoulder and go down the arm. Just as a pain in the leg is often a problem in the low back and not the leg, so too, hand and arm paincan come from the neck.

In the neck are seven vertebrae with disks separating them. In between each of these small bones is an opening for the nerve to pass from the spinal cord, out towards the shoulder and down in to the hand and arm. It’s more like a hole and it’s called a foramen. This opening can be narrowed when the bones are slipped or rotated or both. Also the disk can bulge into the opening, pinching the nerve. These types of problems need specific treatments. Expecting a couple of pain pills or a few exercises to manage strain and sprain injuries to your spinal joints could be wishful thinking.

I have spent much of my last 24 years as a chiropractor helping wrist pain and carpal tunnel syndrome sufferers not only discover the truth about their wrist pain but also getting many of them out of pain quickly, easily and naturally without drugs or surgery. What I provide to my patients is a comprehensive approach to carpal tunnel syndrome. Not only will I evaluate your wrist and hand in detail, I will also look for hidden and sometimes not so hidden problems in the elbow, shoulder and neck. The care I provide for these problems is in an interconnected, non-surgical, healthy approach utilizing treatments from gentle spinal adjustments to cold laser therapy.

February is National Heart month. Help yourself and your community If you mention that you saw this article in the Brighton Buzz when you call to set up your evaluation, you will be charged a special rate of $25.00 for your Carpal Tunnel Evaluation. This $25 will be donated to Almost Home Inc., the nonprofit organization providing shelter, housing and assistance for those in need in Adams County. I think we all need to show that our hearts are in the right place when it comes to our community.
