What's Happening Now!

February is here with all of its thunder. This is an exciting edition of the magazine for us as we’ve got a lot of great news to impart. Our advertisers, as always, have provided us with many good reasons to stay in Brighton with our shopping and service needs, and the information regarding Brighton’s growth is just awesome!
Please take note of the articles on page 4 that talk about our standing in the nation with regard to growth. We know it’s happening, but, to be recognized in this way, nationally, is even more special.
When we think of February, Valentine’s Day is always in the back of our minds. Our cover advertiser, Petals and Pearls, is ready to help you with any of your Valentine gift needs. It’s always a pleasure to show someone you love that you care. Possibly this idea of caring can travel to other areas of our lives as well. One of our advertisers, Meadowlark Montessori, contributed the following poem that was affixed to their wall to teach their children about the joy of doing their work. I thought I might share it this month, as we can feel love and joy for the way we spend our days on all days, with the right perspective.
The greatest blessing in the world is work. There is nothing much more difficult than to sit still and do nothing. Sometimes we are inclined to forget all this and complain because we have work to do. This poem should help to make us more cheerful and contented.
- From Silver Pennies by Blanche Jennings ThompsonLet me but do my work from day to day,
In field or forest, at the desk or loom,
In roaring market-place or tranquil room;
Let me but find it in my heart to say
When vagrant wishes beckon me astray,
This is my work; my blessing, not my doom;
Of all who live, I am the one by whom
This work can best be done in the right way.”
Then shall I see it not too great, nor small,
To suit my spirit and to prove my powers;
Then shall I cheerful greet the labouring hours,
And cheerful turn, when the long shadows fall
At eventide, to play and love and rest,
Because I know for me my work is best.
