News At-A-Glance
Brighton, Colorado
Cultural Corner
Article By Zachary Reece
I hear that Brighton is one of the fastest growing cities in our nation right now. All the more reason to find local cultural outlets, to help relieve some of the growing pains. So here are a few events to prove that creativity thrives on such growth.
Our own local theatre group, The Platte Valley Players, are putting on a brilliant production of Dearly Departed, a dramatic comedy that reflects the range of emotions and nuttiness that the loss of a loved one can bring about in us all. They will perform at the new auditorium at Prairie View High School, February 22-24, and March 1 and 2.
Fort Lupton is preparing for a fine art show and sale for the 1st of March at their Community Center. Approximately twenty-five artists will be chosen to exhibit. There will also be an auction and artist reception with fine food and beverage. If you are an artist, and would like your work to be considered, you can find details on the application process at the city’s web site: www.fortlupton.org
Now please allow me to sprinkle in a couple of interesting events for February that are a bit further south of our community:
On February 15, at Denver’s Oriental Theater (theorientaltheater.com), 4335 West 44th Ave., is the Birds of a Feather show. An evening of local music, fashion design, performance and visual art. Put on by the Solid Art Collective (solidartcollective.com), this event will have more entertainment than you can shake a stick at.
But maybe you are looking for a little more excitement and frivolity in your cultural life? How about a 2-part festival of electronic music and cutting edge artwork? Illusions in Sound is an alternative festival, and the first part will be held on February 23, at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom (cervantesmasterpiece.com)_ 2637 Welton St. Denver, and the 2nd part to be on March 8, at The Oriental Theater.
You are now prepared to keep your artistic spirit alive.Zachary Reece
