Health News: What’s New at Platte Valley Medical Center
THIS YEAR’S 9HEALTH FAIR AT PLATTE VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER “ONE DAY ONLY THIS YEAR” (SAT., APRIL 12)
PVMC is one of a few limited sites to offer two key specialty screenings.
According to researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 6.5 percent of adults age 20 and older have been diagnosed with diabetes. However, about 2.8 percent of U.S. adults — one-third of those with diabetes — still don’t know they have it.
9 Health Fair, Colorado’s largest volunteer-driven health fair program, can help people learn their risk for diabetes and other health issues when they go to the 9Health Fair. This year’s 9HF in Brighton will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 7:00 a.m. – NOON at Platte Valley Medical Center, 1600 Prairie Center Parkway in Brighton.
In addition to blood glucose levels, people can learn about their cholesterol levels, blood pressure rate, Body Mass Index (BMI) and other numbers critical to maintaining good health. Low cost screenings offered this year include the 31-component blood chemistry analysis for $30 which screens for cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL), glucose, thyroid (TSH), kidney and liver function and more. During the same blood analysis, men 40 and older can receive a prostatic specific antigen (PSA) screening for $25.
